ENLISTED SUPERVISOR RETENTION PAY
(ESRP)
Purpose: The Enlisted Supervisor Retention Pay (ESRP) Program is a compensation option for supervisory level Sailors who have a skill set that has been defined as a "critical skill" IAW 37, U.S.C. section 331. The program became effective on 5 November 2004 and is designed to take a large step towards the proper compensation of those Sailors with certain skill sets who are willing to make the Navy a career choice.

NEW SRB & ESRP CAP CALCULATION METHOD
Effective Oct 16, 2018 - SECNAV has capped the total bonus at $30K/year of AOS ($2,500/month of AOS). Previously, the cap was $25K/year of reenlistment. As an example, a 4 year reenlistment adding 37 months of AOS will be capped at $92,500.00. Total bonus is still capped at $100K/reenlistment. Lifetime SRB and ESRP cap is $360K.

The basic calculation shown below can be used to estimate the amount of the SRB/ESRP due. Consult with your Command Career Counselor for an accurate determination in accordance with the latest guidance.
BASIC PAY (date of discharge) x AOS (Additional Obligated Service in months) x MULTIPLE / 12
Example: ET3(SS)(N13O) with over 2 years service reenlists for 72 months (48 months beyond present obligation, excluding non-executed extension)
$2378.40 (2020 Pay Table) x 48 x 10.0 / 12 = $95,136.00 (cap is $100K)
Approximately one half (minus taxes) will be paid at the time of the reenlistment, with the remaining amount paid in equal installments.
