Reenlistment or Extension in the IRR
Who is eligible for Reenlistment/Extension?
Upon completion of initial 8-year MSO or current contract, Service Members are no longer eligible to remain in the IRR-ASP, with the exception of members who have obtained 16 qualifying years as of 30 September 2017 and already assigned to IRR-ASP. Members who desire continued service between 8 and 16 years may request affiliation with SELRES or VTU (volunteer training unit) by contacting a local Navy Recruiter.
IRR-ASP enlisted members who have obtained 16 qualifying years as of 30 September 2017 may apply for reenlistment or extension within 12 months prior to their Expiration of Obligate Service date provided all eligibility requirements are met.
How do I request for reenlistment or extension?
Reenlistment request may be done by contacting PERS-93 30 days prior to EOS to avoid delays.
Please ensure you provide complete and accurate information including full name, rate, SSN, term of reenlistment or extension, your current mailing address, as well as home and work phone numbers. If you prefer to be contacted by e-mail, please include your e-mail address.
All requests must be signed and dated, certifying that "To the best of my knowledge and belief, my physical condition is substantially the same as when I was last physically examined by the Navy."
How does the process work?
Upon receipt of your reenlistment/extension request, Pers-93 will route the request for approval. A reenlistment/extension package will be mailed to you in approximately 4 to 6 weeks. After you have completed the directions contained in your reenlistment/extension contract, return the package to Pers-93. A copy of the completed contract and information on obtaining a new ID card will be mailed to you when your reenlistment/extension has been processed.
