*COVID-19 Uniform Policy Alerts*

NAVADMIN 100/20 Navy Guidance on the Use of Face Coverings.

-  Policy Alert 5 Apr 20: NAVADMIN 100/20 directs all personnel (military, Navy civilian workers, Navy contractors and family members) while on DoD property, installations and facilities to wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of social distance in public areas or work centers, unless exempted by local commander or supervisor.  The wear of face coverings in public settings where social distancing is difficult to maintain is aimed at reducing transmission of COVID-19 from people who do not realize they are infected due to being non-symptomatic.

-  While in uniform, face coverings will be conservative in appearance and not offensive. It will fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, be from nose to chin (full face coverings like a ski mask are not authorized), be secured with ties or ear loops, preferably include multiple layers of fabric if material is cloth, and allow for breathing without restriction.  Until official uniform face coverings are produced and implemented, personnel are authorized to wear medical or construction type masks, or other covering such as bandanas, scarfs, etc.  Hands should be washed before and after touching your face covering.  Never touch your face after touching or adjusting your face covering before washing your hands.

-  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has issued guidance on how to easily make home-made cloth face coverings, which can be accessed HERE.

NAVADMIN 073/20 Temporary Relaxation of Hair Grooming Standards in Response to Coronavirus Outbreak has been released.  See below in 'NAVADMIN and Messages' section.

Policy Alert 18 Mar 20:  Due to COVID-19 force health protection measures maximizing social distancing, commanding officers are authorized to relax the Navy hair length grooming standards for Sailors assigned to their command.  Relaxed hair length grooming standards will only apply to the area of the scalp.  Regulations regarding sideburns, hair styles and shaving requirements remain in effect.  Commanding officers may allow for additional hair length and bulk on the sides, top and back of the head, but at no time will relaxed grooming interfere with the proper wearing of Navy head gear and proper use of protective personal equipment (helmets, masks, hoods, etc.).
