CAPT William R. McCombs
CHIEF OPERATIONAL TEST DIRECTOR

Captain Will McCombs is a native of Concord, California. He is a 1996 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 1998. He holds a Master’s of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and is a graduate of U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, Class 126.
McCombs’ operational tours at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, Washington include Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 134, VAQ-135, and VAQ-132, where he served as the Executive and Commanding Officer. He flew in Operations ALLIED FORCE, NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.
McCombs also completed a developmental test tour at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23. His joint tour was with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he served as the Air and Missile Defense Branch Head for the Science and Technology Directorate. In July 2015, he reported to the Airborne Electronic Attack and EA-6B program Office, PMA-234 at NAS Patuxent River, and served as the Next Generation Jammer Mid Band Integration Lead.
McCombs has flown over 2,700 flight hours in more than 15 type, model, series aircraft, including over 1,800 in the EA-6B and over 500 in the EA-18G. He has more than 300 arrested landings in the EA-6B. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal (five awards), and various other personal and unit awards
