Commander Jeremy N. Lyon is a native of Vandenberg AFB, California; however, he hails from Hesperia, California. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Commander Lyon completed Officer Candidate School in 2002 and entered flight training in Pensacola, FL in the spring of 2002 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in March of 2004. Upon completion of initial P-3C “Orion” training at Patrol Squadron THIRTY (VP-30) in Jacksonville, FL, he reported to his initial operational assignment with the “GREY KNIGHTS” of Patrol Squadron FORTY SIX (VP-46) in April 2004. Designated an Instructor Tactical Coordinator (TACCO) and Mission Commander he completed two SEVENTH Fleet deployments including detachments to Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, Philippines and Guam.
In May 2007, Commander Lyon reported to Command Task Force FIFTY-SEVEN (CTF-57) in Manama, Bahrain where he spent the next 14 months working as the Operations Officer, responsible for all Joint and Allied operational MPRA flight missions and coordinated exercises tasking in the FIFTH Fleet Area of Responsibility. During this time Commander Lyon detached to Camp Slayer, Baghdad, Iraq where he established MPRA support to Multi-National Forces Iraq increasing efficiency of MPRA tasking and coverage in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
In Sep 2008, Commander Lyon reported to USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN-77), where he served as OPS ADMIN and qualified as Tactical Action Officer (TAO). During this tour he successfully commissioned CVN-77 and completed a full set of sea trials and work ups. He also deployed with USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) to Arabian Gulf during CVN-77 shipyard period to qualify as TAO. During this tour he completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) through the Naval War Colleges distance learning program.
In November of 2010, Commander Lyon joined VP-30, where he completed an assignment as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor NFO and served as Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School (MPRWS) Fleet Training Department Head and Assistance Officer in Charge. During this tour he also earned a Master of Arts in International Relations Conflict Resolution form American Military University.
In August 2013, Commander Lyon was assigned to fly with the “GOLDEN SWORDSMEN” of Patrol Squadron FOUR SEVEN (VP-47), in Kaneohe Bay, HI. During his Department Head tour he completed two SIXTH Fleet deployments to Sigonella, Italy and one FOURTH Fleet deployment to El Salvador and JIATF-South Key West, Florida. He served as the squadron Readiness Officer, Officer in Charge MPRA operations in the Souda Bay, Greece, Commander Task Group 172.1 Assistant Operations Officer for RIMPAC 2014, Administrative Officer and Operations Officer.
In July 2016, Commander Lyon was assigned as a Congressional Appropriations Liaison under the Secretary of the Navy. His liaison portfolio included Naval Aviation, Aircraft Carriers, Procurement of Ammunitions Navy and Marine Corp, House Appropriations Committee on Surveys and Inspections, and Special Access Programs.
In July 2018, Commander Lyon reported to VP-30 as PXO for the “FIGHTING TIGERS” of Patrol Squadron EIGHT (VP-8).
In his career, Commander Lyon has accumulated over 1900 flight hours and his personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), and Navy Achievement Medal (3) and various unit and service awards.
