The American Red Cross (AMCROSS) has workers in thousands of chapters around the world including approximately 260 military installations. AMCROSS assists members of the Armed Forces, their families, and veterans with emergency communications and many other vital services. AMCROSS has acted as the medium of communication between the people of the United States and their Armed Forces since 1905 and presently relays around 4,000 urgent messages a day to service men and women far from home. These messages including notification of deaths, serious illnesses, births, and family emergencies are sent at no cost to service personnel or their families.
