Command Master Chief Samuel John Rivera Jr. is a native of Queens, New York. He graduated from St. Johns Preparatory High School, class of 1998 and enlisted in the US Navy in November of that year. He attended Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Nuclear Field Electrician "A" School, Nuclear Power School, and qualified as an Electrical Operator at the MTS-635 prototype in Nuclear Power Training Unit Charleston, South Carolina.
Master Chief Rivera has completed sea tours aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), and USS HARRY S. TRUMAN where he served as the Reactor Department Master Chief (RDMC). As the RDMC he was responsible for the professional development and management of 476 enlisted Sailors to include 25 Chief Petty Officers and 21 junior Officers. He was also responsible to the Reactor Officer for the safe operation of two naval nuclear propulsion plants. During his sea tours he has completed five deployments, four of which were combat deployments in the Arabian Gulf, one Pre-Commissioning and 1 major mid-life Carrier overhaul.
Master Chief Rivera’s shore duties consist of NUCLEAR POWER TRAINING UNIT Charleston, SC and the Lead Instructor at A4W Fleet Interactive Display Equipment Facility (FIDE) as part of Submarine Learning Center (SLC), Detachment San Diego where he was responsible for the operations associated with reactor training, drills, and operations for three CVNs to include USS CARL VINSON, USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, and USS RONALD REAGAN.
Master Chief Rivera is a graduate of the Air Force Senior Enlisted Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (Class 11-C) where he was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer while attending the Academy. He is a graduate of Command Leadership CMC/COB Course (Class 188).
Master Chief Rivera is currently assigned as the Command Master Chief for Carrier Airborne Command and Control Squadron ONE TWO ONE “BLUETAILS”. Norfolk, VA.
Master Chief Rivera’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (1 award), and multiple service ribbons and unit citations. He is qualified as both an Enlisted Aviation and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.
