Captain John L. Enfield

   Native to Torrance, California, Captain Enfield received his commission from the US Naval Academy in 1991 and earned his “Wings of Gold” in August 1994.Native to Torrance, California, Captain Enfield received his commission from the US Naval Academy in 1991 and earned his “Wings of Gold” in August 1994.  A career strike fighter pilot, he has over 3500 hours and 950 arrested landings in tactical jet aircraft flying from nine different aircraft carriers.  He is the first non-test pilot in the Navy to fly the F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.
   Following initial FA-18C pilot training at VMFAT-101 in MCAS El Toro, CA he was assigned to the “Kestrels” of VFA-137 in NAS Lemoore, CA where he deployed in support of OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH.  Subsequent operational tours have all been in Carrier Air Wing FIVE (CVW-5) as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Force Japan.  First reporting in 2001 as the Tactics and Training Officer in the “World Famous Golden Dragons” of VFA-192, he was subsequently assigned to the “Royal Maces” of VFA-27 where he served as a squadron Department Head and deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.  In 2007 he reported as the Executive Officer in
VFA-192.  He returned to CVW-5 in 2013 for duty as Deputy Commander.
   His command tours include the “World Famous Golden Dragons” of VFA-192 where his Sailors earned the 2008 CNO Safety “S” and the 2009 Battle “E” as the finest strike fighter squadron in the Pacific; the “Grim Reapers” of VFA-101, the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter Fleet Replacement Squadron at Eglin AFB, FL; and Carrier Air Wing FIVE homeported in NAF Atsugi, Japan.

   Captain Enfield holds a B.S. in Political Science from the US Naval Academy and a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies (Highest Distinction) from the Naval War College where he was named the President’s Honor Graduate.  He is an alumnus of the Navy’s advanced warfighting school, the Naval Operational Planner Course (NOPC), and is designated a Joint Operational Planner with experience in the PACOM and CENTCOM Areas of Responsibility.
