Captain Edward A. Hoak, a native of Buffalo, New York, graduated in 1994 from the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island and the United States Naval Academy in 1998. Other education includes completion of Joint Professional Military Education from the Naval War College (2011).
He finished at the top of the class as he earned his Wings of Gold in January 2000. His first operational tour was with Patrol Squadron (VP) 47 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii from September 2000 – October 2003 flying the P-3C Orion. During his time with VP-47, he deployed to FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleet Areas of Responsibility. He qualified as a Mission Commander, Instructor Tactical Coordinator and NATOPS Evaluator while serving as the NFO NATOPS Officer.
In October 2003, CAPT Hoak reported to the 562nd Flying Training Squadron in San Antonio, Texas where he was an Instructor Navigator and Operations Officer.
In September 2006, he was selected to serve with BUPERS Sea Duty Component, Dallas, Texas where he was the Training Department Head and Instructor for Chief of Naval Operations Special Program.
In December of 2009 CAPT Hoak reported to Whidbey Island, Washington where he was both the Operations and Maintenance Officer until October 2012 for VP-69.
He was then selected as the Reserve Component VP (P-3) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (BAMS, Triton) Program Manager on the Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve staff in Coronado, California where he served until February 2014.
CAPT Hoak reported as the Executive Officer of the VP-62 Broadarrows in July 2014 and finished his Commanding Officer tour in January 2017.
His next tour was Head Reserve Officer Cmmunity Manager at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS-3) where he was selected for Major Command to the Naval Air Logistics Office,reporting as the Prospective Commanding Officer in July 2019.
CAPT Hoak has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (x3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal as well as numerous campaign and unit awards. He is incredibly fortunate to be married to his wife Naomi and they are the proud parents of their daughter Brianna.
