COMMAND MASTER CHIEF
CMDCM(AW/SW/IW) Donald M. Harris


Command Master Chief Donald Harris is a native of Chicago, Illinois and later raised in Florida. He reported to RTC, Orlando, Florida in 1990 and upon graduation, attended Cryptologic Technician (Maintenance) “A” school at NTTC, Pensacola, Florida.

 

After initial training, he reported in 1991 to NCTS, San Diego as a Fleet Electronic Support (FES) direct support maintainer. He later rotated to Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA), Adak, Alaska in 1994 followed by assignment in 1996, to NSGA, San Diego, where he deployed on USS ELLIOT (DDG 967), USS DULUTH(LPD 6), USS TARAWA (LHA 1), USS PELELIU (LHA 3), USS VALLEY FORGE(CG 50) and USCGC MORGENTHAU (WHEC 722).

 

In 2001, Master Chief Harris began his first shore duty assignment at NSGA FT Meade, Maryland as LPO of the Information Management Office help desk and Commander, Naval Security Group communications center. He then reported for instructor duty at the Center for Information Dominance, Pensacola, Florida in 2004 and advanced to Chief.

 

In 2007, Master Chief Harris returned to sea duty onboard USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77) as a Command 3M Coordinator paving the way for senior enlisted CTMs to serve at sea. As a proud plank owner, he helped bring the last of the NIMITZ class carriers to life and advanced to Senior Chief. His next assignment was at Navy Information Operations Command, Norfolk in 2010 where he served as the Operations and Electronic Warfare Directorate LCPO and advanced to Master Chief. Following this tour, he reported to the Director, Chief of Naval Operations N2/N6, as the CTM rating advisor and was highlighted by his selection as a Command Master Chief in 2013.

 

He served as CMC in USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50) FROM 2014-2017 and is now humbled to lead the "Proud Warriors" of HELMARSTRIKERON SEVEN TWO.

 

Master Chief Harris is qualified as an Enlisted Surface, Aviation, Information Warfare and Master Training Specialist. He holds degrees from the University of Alaska and Excelsior College and is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (180/Brown) and Command Master Chief courses.

 

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards) and other various unit and campaign awards.
