Commander John L. Randazzo is a native of Springfield, Virginia and joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1995.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May of 2000 with a BS in Systems Engineering. Upon completion of flight training in 2002, he was designated a Naval Aviator and reported to HSL-41 for LAMPS MK-III flight training in the SH-60B.
CDR Randazzo's first operational assignment was with the HSL-37 Easy Riders at Kaneohe Bay, HI. He deployed on USS Ruben James (FFG 57) supporting Counter Narco Terrorism Operations, and with USS Chosin (CG 65) as part of ESG-1 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  He also served as Schedules Officer, Detachment Operations Officer, and NATOPS Officer.  
In 2006, CDR Randazzo served at HSM-40 in Mayport, FL as a Fleet Replenishment Squadron (FRS) Instructor pilot.  He held several positions including Student Control Officer and Instructor Pilot Standardization Officer.
In 2008, CDR Randazzo was selected to serve as the helicopter community Initial Shore Tour Assignments Officer (PERS-432D), Navy Personnel Command (NPC) in Millington, TN.  While serving at NPC, he also served as the Second Sea Tour Assignments Officer (PERS-432H) ultimately responsible for coordinating assignments and providing career management to over 2500 pilots across all helicopter communities.
After completion of MH-60R training with HSM-41 in San Diego, CA, CDR Randazzo reported to the HSM-78 Blue Hawks.   He served as squadron Maintenance Officer from June 2011 to June 2013, leading the Maintenance department through its establishment process including a Safe for Flight Inspection, MPA, and AMI resulting in his selection as the 2012 squadron Officer of the Year.  He is also a “Plankowner” of the Blue Hawks.
In June 2014, CDR Randazzo graduated from the US Navy War College in Newport, RI with a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
From August 2014 to April 2017 CDR Randazzo was assigned to NORTHCOM Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region in Washington DC where he served as the J36 Current Air Operations Officer, Continuation of Operations Officer, and the J38 Contingency Coordination Center OIC.  During this tour, CDR Randazzo led the J38 NCRCC team by coordinating Joint DoD Operational units with over 27 federal and state agencies providing Continuity of Government support for several National Special Security Events including the 2016 Presidential Inauguration.
CDR Randazzo’s personal decorations include the Air Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 Awards), and numerous unit and campaign awards.
