Command Master Chief Maurice Coffey is a native of Chicago, Ill. Upon graduation from Lindblom Technical High School in Chicago, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1989.
In September 1989, Master Chief completed Boot Camp at Recruit Training Center San Diego, CA. He reported to Air Traffic Control "A" School, Millington, TN., where he graduated second in his clss and was selected to attend Carrier Air Traffic Control Center (CATCC) "C" School. His first assignment was to USS MIDWAY (CV 41) Yokosuka, Japan. His other sea duty assignments include USS WASP (LHD-1), Norfolk, VA., and USS ESSEX (LHD-2), Sasebo, Japan. He was Command Master Chief of Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE ONE FIVE (VAW 115), Naval Air Facility, Atsugi, Japan, deploying with Carrier Air Wing FIVE aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).
His shore duty assignments include Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA., instructor duty at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Pensacola, FL., Naval Air Station Pensacola, the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, North Chicago, IL., and U.S. Naval Hospital Naples, Italy.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Good Conduct Medal (eight awards), and various unit, service and campaign awards. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Professional Aeronautics in May 2006, his Master's in Aeronautical Science in July 2010 and is currently pursuing a Master's in Public Service Management from DePaul University. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class NR-14) and the CMC/COB Course.
