Morrison, a native of Lexington, Illinois, graduated from the University of
Illinois in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical and
Astronautical Engineering. In February 2002, he was commissioned through
Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
After completing flight training at Whiting Field, Florida and Meridian,
Mississippi, he was designated as a Naval Aviator in October 2004.
completed initial F/A-18E/F training with VFA 122 in Lemoore, California and
joined VFA 211 in Virginia Beach, Virginia in September 2005. In both 2006 and 2007, Commander Morrison
deployed with the “Checkmates” aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operations
IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.
July 2008, Commander Morrison was selected to attend the U.S. Navy Fighter
Weapons School (TOPGUN), graduating in September 2008. After graduation, he reported to Air Test and
Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9) based at NAWS China Lake, California. At VX-9, he served as Training Officer,
Tactics Branch Head, and Special Programs Assistant Branch Head.
July 2011, Commander Morrison reported to the “Checkmates” of VFA-211 as the
Pilot Training Officer. During this
tour, he deployed aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operation
ENDURING FREEDOM. In October 2013,
Commander Morrison joined the “Golden Dragons” of VFA 192 as a Department Head. He served as Admin Department Head, Safety Officer,
Operations Officer, and Maintenance Officer and deployed aboard USS GEORGE
WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in 2015.
March 2016, Commander Morrison reported to NATO Supreme Allied Commander
Transformation (SACT) in Norfolk, Virginia.
During this tour, he served as a NATO Military Training and Exercise
Program (MTEP) programmer and National Exercise Linkage Action Officer. In May
2019, Commander Morrison reported as Executive Officer of VFA-131, deploying
with the squadron in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
Commander Morrison earned a Master of Systems Analysis degree (with
distinction) from the Naval Postgraduate School and has accumulated more than
2,900 flight hours and 620 carrier landings.
His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal
(three strike flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three
awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), as well as other
individual, unit, and campaign awards.
