A Wyoming native, Captain Grant is a 1996 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He also earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College in Carlisle, PA, in 2014.
 
Afloat:  Upon commissioning, he reported aboard USS Denver (LPD-9) in San Diego. In May 1999, he reported to USS Tippecanoe (TAO-199) where he served as the Military Detachment OIC. In December 2003, he joined the FDNF Navy as the 1st Lieutenant aboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD-49), stationed in Sasebo, Japan. Returning to San Diego in July 2005 for his second Department Head tour, he served as Operations Officer of USS Cleveland (LPD-7). In early January 2009, Captain Grant returned to Sasebo as the Executive Officer of USS Tortuga (LSD-46). In October 2014, Captain Grant reported to Beach Master Unit Two (BMU-2) in Little Creek, VA, as Executive Officer. Eighteen months later, he assumed command of BMU-2. There, he led the first instream offload in 6th Fleet from maritime pre-positioned force shipping in seven years as part of a NATO exercise in the Baltics during the summer of 2017. In August 2017, he embarked USS Oak Hill (LSD-51) with a large Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Recovery package and spent the fall leading recovery efforts ashore in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, and Ponce, PR, in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
 
Ashore:  Captain Grant returned to Annapolis as the 29th Company Officer, and taught leadership and navigation courses from 2000-2003.  In 2006, Captain Grant transferred his commission to the Navy Reserve. During his shore tour as a civilian, he was the Director of Refinery Operations for a privately held technology start-up. In October 2007, Commander Grant was recalled to active duty as an Individual Augmentee assigned to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center (ECRC) in Little Creek, VA.  He served as the OIC for the Navy’s IA training at Fort Lewis, WA, and Fort Dix, NJ. In November, Captain Grant reported to Expeditionary Strike Group Seven (ESG-7) in Okinawa as the Operational Support and Plans Officer. In September 2010, he assumed command of Navy Operational Support Center, Knoxville, TN. In December 2017, Captain Grant assumed the duties as the Plans and Policy Deputy Chief of Staff for Commander Navy Reserve Forces Command in December of 2017.
Currently CAPT Grant has assumed his current duties as the Deputy Commander, Coastal Riverine Group TWO.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy achievement Medal, and various service and campaign awards.
