Capt. Doug Stuffle is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Astronomy.  He was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program. In 1996, Stuffle matriculated at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Physics.  He earned a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 2008.

 
Stuffle’s first sea duty tour was aboard the USS Marvin Shields (FF 1066) where he served as gunnery officer.  His next assignment was on USS Harry W. Hill (DD 986) as fire control officer, auxiliaries officer and assistant operations officer.  As a department head, Stuffle served as combat systems officer aboard USS Sides (FFG 14).  His second department head tour was as operations officer, Destroyer Squadron 21 deployed on USS John C. Stennis as the battle group sea combat commander and Maritime Interdiction Force commander.  In 2003, Stuffle reported as commanding officer to the USS Gladiator (MCM 11) home ported in Ingleside, Texas.  In November 2008, he reported to USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) home ported in Everett, Washington, for his second command tour.  In February 2014, Stuffle assumed duties as commodore, Destroyer Squadron 1; completing a ten-month operational deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations as the sea combat commander.  
 
Stuffle served ashore as a surface officer detailer and placement officer assigned to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee, and as a requirements officer on the Chief of Naval Operations staff in Washington D.C. Stuffle served ashore as a surface officer detailer and placement officer assigned to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee, and as a requirements officer on the Chief of Naval Operations staff in Washington D.C.  In 2006, Stuffle served in Basra, Iraq as the naval liaison officer to Multi-National Forces – Iraq.  He also served as deputy assistant chief of staff for operations at Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, assistant chief of staff for operations at Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific, as commander, Navy Region Southwest Reserve Component Command in San Diego and as Chief of Staff to Navy Reserve Forces Command.   In his most recent assignment, he serves as Chief of Staff to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.     
 
Stuffle’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit Medal (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
