CDR Kail Swindle
Commander Kail C. Swindle is from Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Texas A & M University in May of 1996, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution. He was commissioned through Texas A&M’s NROTC program and reported in June of 1996 to NAS Pensacola to begin Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API).
CDR Swindle transferred to NAS Corpus Christi in September of 1996 to begin flight training in the T-34C and was assigned to Training Squadron Twenty-Seven (VT-27). After completing primary and intermediate flight training, he was assigned to Helicopter Training Squadron Eight (HT-8) at NAS Whiting Field, FL for advanced helicopter flight training in the TH-57A/C. Commander Swindle was designated a Naval Aviator in April of 1998.
In December of 1998, after completing SH-60B “Seahawk” Fleet Replacement Pilot Training at Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Four Zero (HSL-40), CDR Swindle reported to the “Vipers” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Four-Eight (HSL-48) at NS Mayport. During this tour, he was deployed to the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea to support Counter Drug Operations aboard USS BOONE (FFG-28), and also to the Persian Gulf in support of HARRY S TRUMAN Battle Group aboard USS STUMP (DD-978). While at HSL-48, he served as Tactics Development Officer, detachment Administration Officer, detachment Maintenance Officer and the squadron NATOPS Officer.
In the spring of 2002, CDR Swindle joined the “Rangers” of Training Squadron Twenty-Eight (VT-28) at NAS Corpus Christi where he became a Primary and Intermediate Flight Instructor in the T-34C. CDR Swindle’s duties while at VT-28 included serving as the Aviation Safety Officer and NATOPS Officer. In the fall of 2005, CDR Swindle reported for duty on the Training Air Wing Four (TW-4) Staff as the Assistant Operations Officer prior to a brief period at VT-28 as a Selected Reservist. In October of 2006, CDR Swindle was selected as a Full Time Support (FTS) Officer and recalled to active duty at VT-28. During this tour, CDR Swindle served as the Standardization Officer, Safety Officer, Detachment Officer-In-Charge, and Operations Officer. In January of 2008, CDR Swindle reported to the “Revelers” of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Five Four (VR-54) at NAS JRB New Orleans to fly the C-130T “Hercules”. While at VR-54, he performed the duties of Assistant Maintenance Officer, Detachment Officer-in-Charge and Operations Officer.
In October 2010, CDR Swindle was assigned to the OPNAV Staff in Washington D.C. and served as the Aviation Requirements & Capabilities Officer at the Office of the Chief of Navy Reserve. While assigned to the Pentagon, he also earned an Executive Masters of Business Administration Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, graduating in March of 2013.
CDR Swindle has flown over 3,800 flight hours and his personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
