Captain Trent is a native of North Chesterfield, VA, and enlisted in the Navy in January 1988. As a First Class Petty Officer, he was selected and subsequently commissioned under the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1997. He was designed a Hawkeye Naval Flight Officer and earned his wings of gold in 1999. He holds Master of Science degrees from the University of Arkansas and the National Defense University.
At sea, he served as the Commanding Officer of VAW-125 Tigertails from February 2015 to June 2016. While in command, VAW-125 completed the maiden deployment of the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye on an around the world combat deployment with CVW-1 onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71).
CAPT Trent also served on USS SCOTT (DDG 995); USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51); VAW-126 Seahawk onboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75); VAW-123 Screwtops onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); and VAW-124 Bear Aces onboard USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77). He participated in Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, SHARP GUARD, DENY FLIGHT, SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM, UNIFIED RESPONSE and INHERENT RESOLVE.
CAPT Trent’s assignments ashore included Anti-Air Warfare Instructor at Weapons Training Unit, Atlantic; Tactics Facilitator at Tactical Training Group, Atlantic; TOPGUN Class 01-01; Hawkeye Advanced Readiness Program, Director at Hawkeye Weapons and Tactics Unit, Atlantic; VAW-VRC Detailer (PERS-432E) at Navy Personnel Command; Executive Officer of VAW-120 and J5 Branch Chief at North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command and most recently as the Battle Director at the 609th Combined Air and Space Operations Center, Al Udeid, Qatar.
He has received a number of personal awards which are a direct testament to the Sailors he has had the privilege to serve alongside. CAPT Trent was appointed an honorary Chief Petty Officer by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy in 2016. He is married to Dr. Cindy Trent, DNP and they have three children Nic (20), Ryan (15), and Grace (15).
