As stewards of the sea, the Navy is committed to protecting the environment while defending freedom. The Navy’s environmental stewardship initiatives include improving energy security and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, responsibly disposing of shipboard waste and wastewater, actively participating in the development of regional coastal and marine spatial plans as part of the National Ocean Planning process, and complying with environmental laws designed to protect marine mammals, endangered species, and sensitive habitats.



As part of Energy Action Month, the Navy is launching a new campaign promoting energy culture change. The campaign's theme, "Did you Know?" highlights the importance of energy to the Navy's mission



At the Hampton Roads Naval Museum inside Nauticus Maritime Center in downtown Norfolk, VA. "Stewards of the Sea" recently opened at Nauticus. The 1000 square foot interactive exhibit lets visitors learn about what the Navy is doing to continuously protect ocean life and keep our oceans clean. The exhibit is a partnership between Nauticus and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and will be at Nauticus for the next 5 years



Earth Day 2014: The Navy and Marine Corps team are celebrating Earth Day throughout April and May with events and activities to raise environmental awareness.
