Congratulations on your orders to Tactical Air Control Squadron Twelve! We are based at the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA. San Diego is truly a wonderful assignment both professionally and recreationally. As a fleet training center, San Diego offers every opportunity for tactical and professional development. Furthermore, San Diego offers a multitude of rewarding options for families when off-duty.

You should be hearing from your sponsor soon, if not already. Your sponsor will assist in your smooth transition to TACRON TWELVE and we look forward to you joining our team.

From the Airport
Proceed South on N. Harbor Drive following the signs towards I-5
You will travel through several lights on N. Harbor Drive until Grape Street
Turn Left on Grape Street and proceed to the top of the hill
You will travel through several lights on Grape Street until the I-5 South Exit
Turn right onto the I-5 South Exit
Travel approx. 2-3 miles past the airport on I-5
Next, exit onto the Coronado Bay Bridge (CA 75)
Turn left on Orange Ave
Orange Ave turns into Silver Strand
Turn left on Tarawa Road and enter NAB through the main gate
Turn left at the second intersection (past the chapel)
VTC-12 is located immediately to your left in BLDG 159

From North or Southbound I-5
Exit onto the Coronado Bay Bridge (CA 75)
Turn left on Orange Ave
Orange Ave turns into Silver Strand
Turn left on Tarawa Road and enter NAB through the main gate

Question: How do I get in contact with VTC-12?
Answer: Call (619) 437-2591 between the hours of 0730 and 1530 PST.

Question: Where do I get a Sponsor?
Answer: Contact Command Sponsor Coordinator. Your new work center will assign you an individual to help you complete your transfer to San Diego and help you check onboard. This person should contact you by phone or mail before you transfer and attempt to answer any questions you might have about your arrival. If you have questions about your Sponsor or have not received any response from your new work center, please let us know at (619) 437-2591, ask for any YN's.

Question: Where will my family stay when we first get to San Diego?
Answer: There are several options to consider when you and your family arrive in San Diego. Your first option is contacting the Navy Housing office in San Diego at (619) 556-8443 or www.cnrswhousing.navy.mil/mfh/default.htm. In the case that housing or civilian apartments are not readily available, suitable lodging is open to service members and their families at Navy Lodge located at Naval Base San Diego (32nd street). For reservations, please contact the San Diego Navy Lodge at (619) 234-6142.

Question: Where do I first check onboard?
Answer: When checking onboard for your fist time you should go directly to the VTC-12 located on NAB Coronado, BLDG 159. The quarter deck is manned Monday-Friday 0730-1530. After hours contact the CTG1 quaterdeck at (619) 437-2572. Please have you orders ready when you arrive.

Question: What do I wear when I check onboard?
Answer: When checking aboard for your fist time you should wear your dress uniform. San Diego changes from Whites to Blues in October (winter), and from Blues to Whites in April (summer). However, your dress blues with ribbons is always a good choice regardless of what season it is.
