Executive Officer (August 2011 - November 2012)

CDR Daniel P. Hopkins is a native of Chicago, IL. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1989 under the Navy Nuclear Power Program. He earned an NROTC scholarship in 1991 and graduated from Jacksonville University in 1995, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and International Studies.
Following his commissioning, he reported to NAS Pensacola, Florida for initial flight training and Randolph AFB, Texas where he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in December of 1996.
CDR Hopkins served with the “RANGERS” of VQ-2 in Rota, Spain from June 1997 through 2000 where he served as Training Division Officer, Special Configurations Officer, Power Plants Officer, Assistant Tactics Officer and the Senior Tactical Evaluator Instructor. CDR Hopkins participated in the initial strikes OPERATION ALLIED FORCE over Serbia/Kosovo and deployed in support of OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH in Iraq.
In July 2000, CDR Hopkins reported to the Jacksonville University NROTC Unit in Jacksonville, Florida as a Naval Science Instructor and Recruiting Officer. He concurrently earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland during his tour.
From February 2003 to May 2005, CDR Hopkins served on the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) as the Senior Tactical Action Officer, Ship’s Weapons Coordinator and Force Protection Officer. During this tour he participated in Indonesian Tsunami Relief in support of OPERATION UNIFIED ASSISTANCE while on a surge deployment to SEVENTH FLEET.
In August 2005, CDR Hopkins reported to the VPU-1 “Old Buzzards” serving as the Special Configurations, Administration and Operations Officer. During this period, he completed three deployments in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, and two deployments in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.
In January 2008, CDR Hopkins was assigned to the Pentagon on the Joint Staff J-3 Operations Directorate as the Reconnaissance Operations Division Air Branch Chief. In 2009, he was named the Joint Staff Deputy Director of Global Operations Action Officer of the Year.
CDR Hopkins reported to the “Talons” of VTC-12 as Executive Officer in August 2011. CDR Hopkins primary awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (six strike flight awards, one individual action award), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal. He has accumulated over 1,500 flight hours in the EP-3 ARIES II and P-3C, and over 150 combat designated missions.
