CDR Thomas P. Pickering
Executive Officer

Commander Pickering native of San Diego, California served as a Naval Aircrewman and Aviation Electricians Mate with VAQ-34 in Point Mugu, California from 1988 to 1992. He received his commission from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in December 2000 as a distinguished graduate.

His initial assignment included duty as NFO Training Officer with the Mad Foxes of PATRON FIVE (VP-5) in Jacksonville, Florida with deployments to Puerto Rico, Iceland, South America and the Mediterranean.

Duties ashore include instructor duty as a Fleet NATOPS Instructor and NFO Training Officer while assigned to PATRON THIRTY (VP-30) in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2007 he earned an Executive Masters of Business Administration degree granted by the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Following FRS Instructor duty, he was assigned duties as the Operations Targeting Officer at COMSEVENTHFLT (C7F) and forward deployed on the USS Blue Ridge in Yokosuka, Japan. During a Combined Joint major exercise, he was personally decorated from the COMMANDER, Republic of Korea Navy for his contributions and coordination efforts with the ROK Navy. During this tour he was personally awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership during multiple Korea combined exercises as well as his efforts in establishing the Maritime Operation Center structure and response cell for Operation TOMODACHI following the Japan earthquake and subsequent tsunami on March 11, 2011.

CDR Pickering then joined the Fighting Tigers of PATRON EIGHT (VP-8) in Jacksonville, Florida for his Department Head tour in September 2011. He served as the Command Services Officer, Administrative Officer, Training Officer, Detachment Officer-in-Charge, while deployed to Kadena, Japan and Isa AB, Bahrain, and the Operations Officer.

CDR Pickering then served in Stuttgart, Germany while assigned to U.S. Africa Command as the Nigeria and Cameroon Action Officer, and the Gulf of Guinea Branch Chief for the J5 Regional Engagement Division.

His personal awards include the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Second Award), Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Second Award), Navy Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Medal (Second Award), Korea Defense Medal and four Sea Service Ribbons.
