CDR Michael D. Moreno
Executive Officer

Commander Moreno is a native of West Covina, California and earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry in Pomona, California in 1999. He commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 2000 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2001.

Commander Moreno’s first assignment was at Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light FOUR SEVEN (HSL-47) in San Diego, California from June 2002 to July 2005. While at HSl-47 CDR Moreno completed two deployments. The first deployment was aboard USS PRINCETON (CG 59) as the Admin Officer and Assistant Maintenance Officer; the second deployment aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) as the command’s Naval Air Training and Operations Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) Officer. CDR Moreno’s next tour was with Training Squadron THREE (VT-3) in Milton, Florida from July 2005 to April 2008 as a primary flight instructor and the command’s Administrative Officer. At VT-3, Commander Moreno earned his Executive Master of Business Administration from the Naval Post-Graduate School.

Commander Moreno next served at Destroyer Squadron TWENTY TWO (CDS 22) from May 2008 to July 2010. He deployed with CDS 22 aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) as the Air and Future Operations Officer. During the deployment CDS 22 was responsible for Theater Security Operations in the Arabian Gulf while being assigned as Combined Task Force ONE FIVE TWO (CTF-152) out of Manama, Bahrain.

Commander Moreno next reported to HSL-48 from October 2010 to November 2013 where he served as the NATOPS Officer, Detachment FIVE officer in charge aboard USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99), and squadron Maintenance Officer.

From November 2013 to January 2016, he served as the Director of Training and Standardization and a crew commander at the Joint Functional Component Commander Space Missile Warning Center at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.

Commander Moreno authorized to wear the Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
