Commanding Officer (August 2011 - November 2012)


CDR Martin is a native of Manila, Philippines and grew up an Army brat. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1984 and served in the submarine service as a nuclear Machinist Mate and Engineering Laboratory Technician. In 1989, he was promoted to petty officer first class and awarded a Navy ROTC scholarship.
 CDR Martin was commissioned in May of 1993 after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He completed flight training in Aug 1995 and received the Commander Alden C. Markey Award as the honor graduate. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College Distance Learning Program.
CDR Martin’s sea assignments include flying tours with Patrol Squadron FORTY FIVE (VP-45) based in Jacksonville, Florida, and Patrol Squadron FOUR (VP-4) based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He also served as the Assistant Navigator aboard the USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) home ported in Coronado, California. He completed deployments in support of NATO Operations DENY FLIGHT, SHARP GUARD, and JOINT ENDEAVOR over the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, anti-submarine operations in the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans, counter-drug operations in the Caribbean and East Pacific Oceans, and Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM-PHILIPPINES.
CDR Martin’s shore assignments include a tour as the Flag Lieutenant/Aide to Deputy Commander in Chief, United States Naval Forces Europe based in London, United Kingdom, and as an instructor with Patrol Squadron THIRTY (VP-30), the P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron based in Jacksonville, Florida. He also served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Training for Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing TWO (CPRW-2) based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. His most recent shore assignment was Deputy Chief, Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) Secretariat in the Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate (J-8) of the Joint Staff.
CDR Martin assumed duties as Executive Officer of TACRON TWELVE in May of 2010. As a member of TACRON TWELVE Detachment FOUR, he recently completed a deployment as Task Force SEVEN SIX and Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN Tactical Air Officer onboard the USS ESSEX (LHD-2), participating in theater security cooperation exercises in Southeast Asia and Operation TOMODACHI, the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts following the natural and radiological disasters that struck Northern Japan.
CDR Martin is authorized to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal, and various unit awards and campaign medals.
