|CDR Dwayne Burbridge
Commanding Officer (November 2009 - November 2011)
Commander Burbridge, a native of Glendive, Montana, enlisted in the Navy in September 1985. After completing the Naval Nuclear Training program as a Machinist Mate and Engineering Laboratory Technician, he reported aboard USS ALEXANDER HAMILTON (SSBN 617) where he served for two years as a nuclear chemist before attending the University of Washington, graduating in June 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Following initial flight training, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in May 1995
After completing P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron training, he reported to Patrol Squadron ONE at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. During nearly four years in VP-1, he served as Squadron Legal Officer, AE Branch Officer, Maintenance Admin Officer, NFO Training Officer and finally as NFO NATOPS Officer. He completed three deployments with the Screaming Eagles, two to the 5th Fleet and one to 7th Fleet. Following that tour, CDR Burbridge was selected to become a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor and reported to Patrol Squadron 30 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida in January 2000. While there, he provided initial systems knowledge, procedural training and practical applications to Naval Flight Officers entering the P-3 community as well as aviators returning to fleet squadrons. At VP-30, he held billets in Operations, Weapons Tactics Unit, Fleet Instructor Training, and as a Fleet NATOPS Evaluator.
Next, he served aboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) as a Catapult & Arresting Gear Officer where he worked the flight deck as a “Shooter” during an exceptionally challenging deployment launching and recovering combat sorties in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He held jobs as Bow Catapult Branch Officer and Aviation Fuels Division Officer.
Commander Burbridge next reported as a Department Head to the TRIDENTS of Patrol Squadron 26 located at NAS Brunswick, Maine in October 2004. During this tour, he served as Tactics Officer, Admin Officer, Commander Task Group 67.1 Operations Officer, Training Officer and finally as squadron Operations Officer.
In February 2007, he reported to NATO’s Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Mons, Belgium as Staff Officer for Maritime Defense Planning. While in this billet, CDR Burbidge was selected to assume the duties as Flag Aide to Commander, Staff Element Europe.
Commander Burbridge reported to TACRON 11 as Executive Officer in May 2009.
Commander Burbridge’s decorations include the Joint Service Commandation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), the Navy Achievement Medal (2) and a Good Conduct Medal along with several unit and campaign awards.
