Marysville, Wash. - Navy Lodge hosted a celebration to honor the many Everett Sailors about to deploy, and to celebrate the Navy Lodge’s 40th Anniversary at the Smokey Point Support Complex in Marysville, Wash., July 12.
Sailors and their family members were invited to attend the celebration comprised with karaoke, prizes, and unlimited barbeque and desserts.
Even though July 12 was the Navy Lodge’s 40th Anniversary, the Smokey Point Navy Lodge manager, Beverly Armstrong, decided to make it more about the deploying Sailors and their families.
“Around 35 percent of our guests at this time are family members who have come to spend time with their Sailor before they leave on deployment,” said Armstrong.
Navy Lodge employees and other volunteers worked hard decorating and cooking for the celebration. The volunteers barbequed pulled pork and hot dogs, and made root beer floats throughout the evening.
“Navy Lodge has always given the best service and hospitality. It is a great place to stay to get a break from the ship. I think it was really nice of them to throw a celebration for Sailors and their families,” said Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handling Airman Tony Troncoso, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).
Active duty Sailors were also able to enter a free raffle for a chance to win one of two deployment care packages. These care packages were put together by Navy Lodge employees, containing items donated by various vendors and local businesses that Sailors can take with them underway. The winners of the care packages were drawn at the end of the evening.
