March 22, 2017, SAN DIEGO. U.S. Navy Rear Adm. John Wade (left), proudly welcomes Rear Adm. Akira Saito, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Chief of Staff, Fleet Escort Force, to the headquarters of Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development (SMWDC). Saito visited the young command for an introductory brief on its lines of effort, progress to date, and goals for the upcoming year. During the meeting, SMWDC staffers highlighted how the command develops Warfare Tactics Instructors and provides advance tactical training to surface ships and warfighters across the fleet.
