Elite cadre of SWOs to become WTIs
MIWC

Lt., Joven Dinglasan, warfare tactics instructor (WTI) assigned to the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), explains the WTI application process to junior surface warfare officers (SWO) onboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) in San Diego. Dinglasan was the honor graduate of SMWDC’s 2016 Integrated Air and Missile Defense WTI course. Akin to Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOP GUN) for the Navy’s top aviators, SMWDC plucks an elite cadre of SWOs to become WTIs – the best of the best in doctrine and tactics. SMWDC’s next WTI classes commence in January and July 2017. (U.S. Navy photo by SMWDC Public Affairs/Released)

Lt. Brittany Hubbard, warfare tactics instructor (WTI) assigned to the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), explains the WTI application process to junior surface warfare officers (SWO) onboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) in San Diego. Hubbard was the honor graduate of SMWDC’s 2016 Amphibious Warfare WTI course. Akin to Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOP GUN) for the Navy’s top aviators, SMWDC plucks an elite cadre of SWOs to become WTIs – the best of the best in doctrine and tactics. WTIs come from three communities: integrated air and missile defense, amphibious warfare, and anti-submarine/anti-surface warfare. (U.S. Navy photo by SMWDC Public Affairs/Released)

Junior surface warfare officers (SWO), onboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), attend a brief by the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center’s (SMWDC) warfare tactics instructors (WTI). SMWDC staffers visited Harpers Ferry to introduce the new WTI professional career path to lieutenants and below. SMWDC is charged with increasing the tactical proficiency of the surface fleet by selecting an elite cadre of SWOs to become WTIs – the best of the best in tactics. WTI classes are held biannually in Virginia and San Diego – the next classes commence in January and July 2017.
