|LCDR Kelechi R. Ndukwe
A native of Columbus, Ohio, LCDR Ndukwe graduated from University of Notre Dame in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was commissioned an Ensign through the Naval ROTC program.
LCDR Ndukwe was assigned to the USS THORN (DD-988) as the Auxiliaries Officer. During his time on board, he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer and participated in THORN’s “Sunset Deployment” from November 2003 to May 2004. THORN was decommissioned in August 2004, and LCDR Ndukwe transferred to his second division officer tour as the Fire Control Officer on USS NORMANDY (CG-60). He also served as a Training Officer to the Iraqi Navy and Liaison Officer to the Combined Task Force Commander while NORMANDY was deployed in the Arabian Gulf from June 2005 to September 2005.
LCDR Ndukwe transferred to the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs in August 2006. While stationed on Capitol Hill, LCDR Ndukwe had the unique opportunity to serve as a Navy Liaison to both the House of Representatives and the Senate. He led Congressional Delegations to 24 countries during his two-year tour on the Hill. He transferred to the Naval War College in August 2008, graduating in June 2009 with a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies as well as completing Joint Professional Military Education Phase One.
Following Department Head School, LCDR Ndukwe was assigned to USS FITZGERALD (DDG-62) based in Yokosuka, Japan in June 2010. During his 18 months onboard, he served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer, participating in several multi-national and BMD exercises as well as real-world submarine prosecutions. FITZGERALD played an integral role in OPERATION TOMODACHI in support of disaster relief efforts in Northeast Japan.
LCDR Ndukwe reported as Executive Officer to MCM Crew SWERVE embarked on USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6) in August 2012. He has assisted in guiding SWERVE through an arduous 2012-2013 Surge Deployment to FIFTH Fleet.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and unit awards.
