|LCDR Edison C. Rush III
LCDR Edison C. Rush III is a native of Southern New Jersey. LCDR Rush was appointed as a midshipman to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. As a midshipman, he sailed on a variety of commercial ships including roll on/ roll off ships, oil tankers, bulk carriers, and military pre-positioned ship. He graduated in 2002 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics and Inter-modal Transportation, along with a United States Coast Guard Unlimited All Gross Tonnage Oceans Third Mate’s License.
He entered the Navy as a surface warfare officer and his afloat assignments include service onboard the USS OGDEN (LPD 5) in San Diego, CA, as Main Propulsion Officer, the USS DECATUR (DDG 73) as Navigator and Legal Officer, also in San Diego, CA. He completed his first department head tour pre-commissioning USS SAN DIEGO (LPD 22) as Officer-In-Charge of the Pre-Commissioning Detachment and Operations Officer. He deployed onboard USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) on her maiden deployment.
LCDR Rush reported to MCM Crew SWERVE as Executive Officer in April 2011. He led the crew through an Arabian Gulf deployment onboard USS Gladiator (MCM 11), a Planned Maintenance Availability and USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6) 2012 Surge Deployment to the Arabian Gulf. Rush assumed command in August 2012.
Rush holds a Master’s degree Business Administration from Naval Postgraduate School and completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase One. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
