LCDR Gleason is a native of Greenfield, Iowa. He was commissioned in 2002 via the NROTC program at Iowa State University, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science.
Upon completion of the Surface Warfare Officer’s School Basic Division Officer’s Course in Newport, RI, LCDR Gleason reported to USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) as the Damage Control Assistant. In 2002-2003 Oscar Austin made her maiden deployment with the Harry S. Truman Strike Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His second division officer tour was on the staff of Amphibious Squadron Eight, serving as the assistant material and logistics officer (N4A). While on the staff of CPR-8, he deployed twice to the Fifth Fleet AOR in USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) and USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
LCDR Gleason’s post Division Officer shore tour was with the Surface Analysis Branch for Evaluating and Reporting (SABER) at the Office of Naval Intelligence, where he served as a Surface Operations and MIW Analyst.
Returning to sea after completing Department Head training, Gleason served as the Operations officer in USS New Orleans (LPD 18), deploying to the Fourth Fleet AOR in support of Southern Partnership Station.
Gleason reported to MCM Crew Reaper as the Executive Officer in June, 2012.
Personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service medals and unit awards.
