Command Master Chief (August 2009 - December 2011)

Master Chief Donald A. Charbonneau is assigned as the Command Master Chief for MCM Crew Persistent home ported at Naval Station San Diego, CA.

Born and raised in Southbridge, Massachusetts, Master Chief Charbonneau enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1988. He completed Recruit Training and Seaman Apprentice Training in March of 1989. A graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Master Chief Charbonneau rating is Gunners Mate (Guns).

His prior assignments included Assault Craft Unit Five from March 1989 to October 1992, where he received his rate designation as a Gunners Mate and where he experienced his first Western Pacific deployment aboard the USS Comstock (LSD-45) Detachment Delta during Operation Desert Shield; onbaord USS Camden (AOE-2) from October 1992 to October 1997, he served as the Work Center Supervisor, Ammunition Administrator, earned his ESWS qualification, and completed his 2nd and 3rd deployment to the Gulf; at the Navy Recruiting District Phoenix, October 1997 to August 2001, he served as a Recruiter at Navy Recruiting Station Desert Sky; USS Oldendorf (DD972), August 2001 to June 2003 as the Leading Petty Officer of Combat Gunnery Division, Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor and Command Assistant 3-M coordinator. He decommissioned the ship and conducted a crew swap deployment to the USS Fletcher (DD-992) for his 4th deployment to the Gulf; USS Squall (PC-7) serving as Weapons department LCPO and completed his underway Officer of the Deck Qualification. He conducted a second crew swap deployment, fifth gulf deployment to the USS Chinook (PC-9); NRD Phoenix for a second tour of recruiting duty assigned as the Advanced Programs Supervisor. He reported to MCM Crew Persistent in August 2009 and is presently serving either onboard USS Devastator or USS Scout abroad.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (9 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (6 awards) as well as various Joint and Navy unit and campaign awards. Master Chief Charbonneau is also entitled to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare insignia and has received his associate’s degree in Applied Science from Columbia Southern University.
