LCDR James J. Sordi, Jr
Executive Officer (March 2012 - December 2012)

Lieutenant Commander Sordi is a native of Brooklyn, NY. He is a 2001 graduate of State University of New York Maritime College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate License and his commission through the Navy Merchant Marine Reserve Program.

Lieutenant Commander Sordi’s first duty station was USS HIGGINS (DDG 76), where he served as Main Propulsion Officer. During his tour in HIGGINS, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom conducting Tomahawk Strike Operations against Enemy Targets in Iraq and participated in the first DDG Sea Swap with USS BENFOLD (DDG65). Following this tour Lieutenant Commander Sordi commissioned USS HALSEY (DDG 97) as the ships first Navigator. During this tour HALSEY exceeded fleet expectations by certifying early, becoming surge-ready 6 months ahead of schedule.

Lieutenant Commander Sordi’s most recent tour was in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76), where he served as Operations Officer. During his tour in HIGGINS, Lieutenant Commander Sordi participated in Operation Unified Response providing afloat logistical services for U.S. Coast Guard and Navy helicopters rendering aid to the people of Haiti. HIGGINS also returned to the Northern Arabian Gulf where Lieutenant Commander Sordi worked closely with Commander Task Group Iraqi Maritime to support Iraq in maintaining the integrity of Iraqi territorial waters and defending critical Iraqi oil infrastructure.

Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Sordi attended the Naval Post Graduate School where he earned Masters of Science in Computer Science and completed his JPME Phase I.

LCDR Sordi’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
