LCDR Matthew Erdner assumed command of MCM Crew DOMINANT from the outgoing Commanding Officer, LCDR Gerald Lorio, at a change-of-command ceremony held on 07 Nov 2011 at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain, Mina Salman, Bahrain.
LCDR Lorio took over command of Crew DOMINANT following his successful tour as the Crew’s Executive Officer back in August of 2010. During his tenure as Commanding Officer, he led MCM Crew DOMINANT through a variety of demanding tasks and a challenging schedule of inspections. This included CHAMPION receiving the highest score at INSURV that an MCM has earned in the past 5 years and the near flawless execution of the Unit Level Training Cycle. While in command of USS SCOUT (MCM 8), he led his team through a rigorous FIFTH Fleet deployment including the first port visit to Muscat, Oman for an MCM class vessel.
For his performance throughout his tour, Commander Task Force 52, CDRE Allen presented LCDR Lorio with a Meritorious Service Medal at the Change of Command ceremony. Additionally, he was presented his command pennants which were flown on the MCM’s that Crew DOMINANT served on during his time in command as a gift by BMCS(SW/AW) Bernard on behalf of the Crew. He will report to Surface Forces Pacific following some well deserved rest and relaxation.
LCDR Erdner is no stranger to MCMs. He first came to the community as the Chief Engineer for MCM Crew BULWARK. Following that tour he joined MCM Crew DOMINANT as the Executive Officer during a very demanding tour, before fleeting-up as Commanding Officer.
