Commanding Officer (October 2013 - January 2015)
Lieutenant Commander Horst Sollfrank, a native of Cortlandt, New York, graduated from the Hawaii Pacific University in 2001, receiving a B.S. in Diplomacy and Military Studies.
LCDR Sollfrank’s first division officer assignment was as Auxiliaries Officer in the Engineering Department of USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73) stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI. LCDR Sollfrank then fleeted up as the Training Officer and completed a deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Following his Division Officer tours, LCDR Sollfrank reported to Naval Personnel Command as a Junior Officer Detailer (PERS-41). While at NPC, LCDR Sollfrank volunteered for a tour in Afghanistan where he served as an operational planner on the staff of CJTF Phoenix. Following this assignment, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School and was awarded a M.A. in National Security Affairs.
Upon completion of Surface Warfare Department Head training, he reported aboard USS KIDD (DDG 100) and served as the Operations Officer deploying in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM. LCDR Sollfrank then reported to MCM CREW LEADER in June 2012 as Executive Officer and deployed to the Arabian Gulf. In October 2013 he reported to MCM CREW DOMINANT as Commanding Officer.
Lieutenant Commander Sollfrank’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign, service and unit awards.
