Master Chief Jonas D. Carter
Command Master Chief
Master Chief Carter, a native of Tecumseh, MI, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1991. Following completion of basic training at RTC, Great Lakes, IL he reported to SSC, Great Lakes, IL where he completed apprenticeship training. He followed onto Guided Missile School, Dam Neck, VA for NATO Sea Sparrow Surface Missile System class “C” school.
Upon graduation, he reported to the pre-commissioning detachment KEARSARGE (LHD-3), located in Pascagoula, MS. On October 16, 1993, he commissioned USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3). It is onboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3) where he earned both Surface and Aviation Warfare designations as a Third Class Petty Officer. He Advanced to Second Petty Officer and transferred to Service School Command, Great Lakes, IL for Instructor Duty at FC “A” School where he earned his Master Training Specialist.
In 2002, he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and reported to his next sea command, pre-commissioning detachment RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76) located in Newport News, VA, as the CS-5 Division Leading Chief Petty Officer.
After the commissioning USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76) on July 12, 2003, he made a homeport change to San Diego, CA. During the maiden deployment he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and ordered to Navy Recruiting Command, Millington, TN where he served as a Reserve Officer Accessions Program Manager.
After transferring in June 2009, he completed the Combat Systems Senior Enlisted and Senior Enlisted Academy Courses while enroute to USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74), home ported in Bremerton, WA. During his tour on the STENNIS, he served as the Combat Systems Maintenance Leading Chief Petty Officer and was hand selected as the Training Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. He was selected to the Command Senior Chief Program in 2011 and later led the Sailors that remained behind on the JCS Beach Detachment during her deployment 2011 until he transfer to the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat School in Newport, Rhode Island.
His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
