A native of Sylvester, Georgia, Lieutenant Commander Lewis received his commission from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL in September 2000. Upon graduating from Surface Warfare Officer School, he reported to USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) in Norfolk, Virginia as Weapons Officer. While aboard GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44), Lieutenant Commander Lewis deployed in support of UNITAS-42-01 and earned his Surface Warfare Officer Qualification.
In March 2003, Lieutenant Commander Lewis reported to USS COLE (DDG 67) where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer. Lieutenant Commander Lewis reported to Commander Amphibious Group One (CPG-1) Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF in Okinawa, Japan) in November 2004, where he served as Flag Aide until June 2006.
Following his tour as a Flag Aide, Lieutenant Commander Lewis attended the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, CA, where he earned an MBA in Financial Management and completed JPME Phase I.
Upon graduating from Department Head School, he reported to USS COLE (DDG 67) as the Weapons Officer and later Combat Systems Officer. Lieutenant Commander Lewis deployed with COLE in support of exercise Joint Warrior 092 and Standing NATO Mediterranean Group (SNMG) 2010 Anti-Piracy Operations deployment.
He holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal.
