GSCS (SW) Chief Pedro C. Gines
Command Master Chief (January 2010 - January 2012)
Command Senior Chief Gines is a native of Baguio City, Philippines. He entered the Navy in September 1990 and attended Recruit Training at RTC, San Diego California.
Senior Chief Gines reported to his first assignment onboard USS HARRY W. HILL (DD 986) while she is deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He advanced to Petty Officer Second Class and qualified as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His next tour was onboard USS HEWITT (DD 966) stationed in Japan. He advanced to First Class Petty Officer and was part of the homeport shift crew to San Diego, California in 1997.
Senior Chief Gines’ first shore duty was in Great Lakes Training Center where he served as Gas Turbine “A” school instructor. He earned his designation as Master Training Specialist and selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1999. After this successful tour, he reported onboard USS OLDENDORF (DD972) and served as MP division LCPO. He was advanced to Senior Chief in 2003. He reported to the USS FLETCHER (DD992) as part of the crew swap program while deployed to the Persian Gulf. Senior Chief Gines transferred to the USS DECATUR (DDG 73) in 2004 as the Engineering LCPO. He was selected to the Command Senior Chief program in 2007 and went through both the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course in Newport, Rhode Island.
Senior Chief Gines’ personal awards included the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
