|LCDR Samuel Hoard Jr.
LCDR Samuel Hoard Jr. enlisted in the Navy's Delayed Entry Program in May 1992, reporting to Recruit Training Command in San Diego, California in May 1993. After completion of RTC and Fireman Apprenticeship Training, he reported for duty onboard USS TRUXTUN (CGN-35) in Bremerton, Washington. During this tour he worked as an undesignated Fireman assigned to Repair Division in Engineering Department. After decommissioning the TRUXTUN, being advanced to Hull Maintenance Technician Third Class (HT3) and receiving his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification, he attended Hull Maintenance Technician "A" School at Great Lakes, Illinois to enhance his rating knowledge in December 1995.
Upon graduating from “A” school in February 1996, HT3 (SW) transferred to the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) in Everett, Wa. He was assigned to the Collection, Holding and Transfer (CHT)/Pipe shop and became the assistant Leading Petty Officer with only 6 months onboard. He completed a rigorous six-month Western Pacific (WESPAC) deployment, took multiple college courses via the SOCNAV program, received his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification, initiated into the solemn mysteries of the Ancient Order of Shellbacks and was command advanced to Second Class Petty Officer.
In January 2000, HT2 (SW/AW) reported to Naval Reserve Center in Port Hueneme, Ca. to become an order-writer for over 1000 selective reservists. He received two Sailor of the Quarter awards and was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program.
Upon graduation from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, he was commissioned in December 2002 and reported onboard the USS MILIUS (DDG 69) in San Diego, Ca. where he served as the Electrical Officer and Assistant Chief Engineer. He also served as the Repair Five Locker Officer and filled the Damage Control Assistant’s position on numerous occasions.
LTJG Hoard transferred in April 2005 to PC Crew Kilo in Coronado, Ca. where he served as the Executive Officer, Weapons Officer, and Supply Officer onboard the USS HURICCANE (PC 3), USS SIROCCO (PC 6) and USS THUNDERBOLT (PC 12). In October 2005, he logistically help plan and coordinate a successful homeport shift to Little Creek, Va. prior to deploying to the 5th fleet AOR for OPLAT defense.
In February 2007, LT Hoard reported to the Center of Naval Leadership (CNL)/ Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) Learning Site Dam Neck where he earned his Master Training Specialist while instructing Department Head and Division Officer Leadership courses. In March 2010, he earned his Masters Degree in Management from Troy University prior to transferring to Surface Warfare Officer School Command for the Department Head (DH) course in Newport, Rhode Island.
After graduating DH school in April 2011, he assumed the duties as Chief Engineer and Senior Watch Officer for MCM Crew Reaper while being attached to the USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6), USS GLADIATOR (MCM 11), USS CHAMPION (MCM 4) and USS CHIEF (MCM 14) in San Diego, Ca. and Bahrain, UAE.
