Master Chief Smith entered the Navy on July 17, 1989. He attended recruit training at Recruit Training Center Orlando, Florida. He attended Cryptologic Technician “A” School at Pensacola, Florida.
He reported to his first duty station, Navy Security Group Activity (NSGA) Misawa, Japan as a CTTSR. During this tour, he converted to CTR and promoted to CTR3. Master Chief’s next duty station was NSGA Northwest in Chesapeake, Virginia. During his tour at Northwest, assigned to the Direct Support division, he deployed on several surface combatants supporting Counter Drug operations and fleet workup cycles.
Master Chief Smith then reported to Navy Information Warfare Activity Suitland, Maryland. His next duty station was USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56) homeport Norfolk, Virginia where he qualified Enlisted Surface and Air Warfare Specialist.
He reported to Naval Technical Training Center Pensacola, Florida in July 2002, pinned on Chief Petty Officer that same year, and qualified Master Training Specialist during his tour. Master Chief Smith next reported to the Naval Information Operations Command (NIOC) Augusta, Georgia as an Assistant Cryptologic Resource Coordinator. He deployed from NIOC Georgia to the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) as part of Commander Carrier Strike Group Eight.
He reported to NIOC Menwith Hill, United Kingdom and promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer in July 2009. He served as the command Senior Enlisted Leader and qualified Enlisted Information Dominance Specialist. Master Chief entered the Command Senior Chief Program in 2011 and attended both the Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Leadership School from July 2011 to September 2011.
Master Chief Smith’s awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal five awards, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal two awards, and the Joint Commendation Medal.
