Command Senior Chief


Senior Chief Thompson is a native of Custer, South Dakota and enlisted in the United States Navy June 1998. Following basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL he reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Pensacola, FL and completed Aviation Electronics Technician “A” School followed by Calibration “C” school at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS. Upon graduation he reported to the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Point Mugu, CA from 1999 to 2001.

In January 2001, he attended Advanced Calibration training at Keesler AFB, with follow-on orders to AIMD Sigonella, Sicily. There he became the Leading Petty Officer of the Calibration Lab. In March 2003, he returned to Pensacola, FL for Advanced Electronics (C1 School).

From 2005 to 2008, he was assigned to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), home ported in Everett, WA. While onboard, he completed two Western Pacific deployments and qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist as well as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.

In 2008, he transferred to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Lemoore, California as an instructor. During this tour, he earned his Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification and was selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2009.

In March 2012, Senior Chief Thompson volunteered for an Individual Augmentee assignment to Djibouti Africa where he served as the Command Security Manager for the Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA). During his IA tour, he qualified as an Expeditionary Warfare Specialist (EXW) and Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (IDW).

In April 2013 he transferred to the Navy’s only Forward Deployed Aircraft Carrier, the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73). He served as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of the Avionics Armament Division which provides support to Carrier Air Wing FIVE and the GEORGE WASHINGTON Strike Group. During this tour he was part of the hull swap with the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) and made three deployments between the two ships. He is currently the Command Senior Chief for the USS PIONEER (MCM 9).

Thompson graduated on the Dean’s List from the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 172 (Blue) in 2013. His personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal and various other service and campaign awards and was the 2014 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award recipient for the Navy. He has qualified as Officer of the Deck Underway and has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embrey Riddle Aeronautical University.
