On the afternoon of Thursday May 5th, 2011 the crew of USS PATRIOT took time out of their busy schedules to recognize a significant milestone in the career of one of their own. Michael Kaszubowski, accompanied by his family, was frocked to Damage Control Master Chief by LCDR Schang, the Commanding Officer. His wife performed the ceremonial pinning of insignia, marking the transition from Senior Chief Petty Officer to Master Chief Petty Officer.
A very special guest to the new Master Chief was among the crew and the many guests onboard - DCCM David Singer. Nearly sixteen years ago, the then-DCC Singer welcomed Fireman Kaszubowski to his first command. Today, they are brothers in an elite group of Sailors who may call themselves Master Chief in the Damage Controlman rating.
DCCM Kaszubowski credited his wife, as the force behind his successful career. He encouraged USS PATRIOT sailors not to limit themselves on what they can achieve in their Naval careers.
Across the Fleet the Navy only selected five DCCM’s this year and only two Master Chiefs were selected across Amphibious Force Seventh Fleet. DCCM Kaszubowski achieved this milestone just shy of his 16th year of active duty service - a rare accomplishment and true source of inspiration.
