Born in July of 1984 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and raised in New York, N.Y., Personnel Specialist First Class Jery A. Vasquez graduated from Louis D. Brandeis High School in June 2003. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December 2004 and attended recruit Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. In February 2005, he reported to Naval Technical Training Center in Meridian Mississippi where he completed Personnelman “A” School.
After graduating “A” school, Vasquez’s first assignment was to Personnel Support Detachment New London, Connecticut. He then reported to Norfolk, Virginia, where he served aboard Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) for her maiden deployment as a NATO Flag ship from August 2007 to March 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He next assignment was at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida where he deployed onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) to the U.S. Fifth Fleet area from May 2010 to December 2010, before reporting to Navy Recruiting District New York in March 2012..
He is currently serving as personnel officer and command career counselor onboard Avenger-class mine countermeasure ship USS Sentry (MCM 3) forward deployed to Manama, Bahrain.
Petty Officer Vasquez holds an Associate in Arts degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
