Command Master Chief

Command Senior Chief Richard C. Schaefer Jr. was born in Laundstuahl, Germany and graduated Francis Howell North High School in June 1999. He joined the United States Navy on 22 September 1999. Upon graduation from Recruit Training Command he attended Fire Controlman “A” School in Great Lakes, IL.

His Previous assignments have included, Fire Controlman on board USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3), San Diego, CA; Guns Division LPO on board USS Denver (LPD 9), San Diego, CA; Water Survival Division LPO at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL; Communications LPO at Provincial Reconstruction Team, Farah, Afghanistan; Senior Enlisted Leader for Surface Warfare Detachment ONE on board USS Freedom (LCS 1) and USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), San Diego, CA; and Lead LCS/DDG 100X Detailer at Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN.

Senior Chief Schaefer was selected to the Command Senior Chief Program in February 2016. In September 2016, he attended Senior Enlisted Academy Class 200 Blue. In April 2017, he reported to his current assignment on board USS Chief (MCM 14) Sasebo, Japan as Command Senior Chief.

Senior Chief Schaefer’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards) , Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), Good Conduct Medal( four awards), and numerous campaign medals and unit citations.
