CDR Michael Harris enlisted in the United States Navy in 1987and was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1995. CDR Harris reported in June 2011 as Executive Officer onboard USS PEARL HARBOR.
While enlisted, Mike completed sea duty assignments at CARRIER AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING SQUADRON 117 deployed on USS ENTERPRIZE (CVN 65) and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) completing a World Cruise, Around the Horn (South America) Cruise, and Western Pacific. Prior to attending college and receiving his commission at Iowa State University he served as an instructor at the CARRIER AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING Fleet Replacement and Maintenance Squadron 110.
Following his commission in 1995, his assignments at sea include: Main Propulsion Division Officer and Auxiliaries Officer onboard USS COWPENS (CG 63) completing a Western Pacific Deployment; Assistant Staff Operations Officer at AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON THREE completing deployments to the Western Pacific on USS TARAWA (LHA 1) and USS BON HOMME RICHARD (LHD 6); Chief Engineer onboard USS KLAKRING (FFG 42) deployed to the Atlantic with NATO Standing Naval Force; and as Material and Readiness Officer for Destroyer Squadron FOURTEEN.
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance from Iowa State University. Mike earned a Master of Science from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and a Master of Arts from Naval War College in Newport, RI. His other shore duty assignments include an overseas tour with NATO at the Allied Component Command, Maritime in Naples, Italy as a Staff Operations Officer Maritime Operations Standing Maritime Group 2 and as an Engineering and Material Readiness Instructor for Surface Warfare Officer’s School, Newport, RI.
CDR Harris’ personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, five Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, Good Conduct, Expert Pistol, and Expert Rifle.
