CDR Ilteris is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from Duxbury High School in 1992. He then went on to graduate from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Marine Engineering and a Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer Unlimited Horsepower License.
CDR Ilteris reported onboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7) in May 1998 serving as OI Division Officer. While onboard the ship participated in RIMPAC ’98, and deployed to the Arabian Gulf. His second Division Officer tour was onboard USS Hue’ City (CG-66) as the Engineering Maintenance and Training Officer. During his tour, the ship deployed with the USS John F. Kennedy Battle Group in response to the 9-11 attacks in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
CDR Ilteris’ first Department Head tour was as Chief Engineer onboard USS TORTUGA (LSD-46). He then reported onboard USS GUARDIAN (MCM-5) for his second tour as Executive Officer. While there, GUARDIAN completed the first independent deployment of a mine countermeasures ship to the South China Sea and Indian Ocean.
CDR Ilteris’ shore duty assignments include the Naval War College, where he earned a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and the United States Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska. While at USSTRATCOM, he was assigned to the J35, Future Operations Plans Division. He was responsible for developing and writing plans along the Space, Cyber and Strategic Deterrence lines of operation.
He reported onboard USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD-49) as Executive Officer in June of 2011.
