USS Ashland Departs Sasebo for CARAT 
 
SASEBO, Japan (May 9, 2014) The forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) departs Fleet Activities Sasebo to participate in exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT). An annual, exercise series, CARAT is designed to develop relationships, address shared maritime security priorities and enhance interoperability among the naval forces of the U.S. and several countries in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
