Lieutenant Commander Michael S. Stucky, a native of Houston, Texas, is the Executive Officer in USS RUSHMORE (LSD-47).
He received his commission in May 1996 through the United States Naval Academy, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering. In 2002 he received his Command and Staff Diploma (JPME Phase I), with distinction, from the U.S. Naval War College. In 2003 he received a Master of Science degree in Space Systems Operations from the Naval Postgraduate School.
He has served at sea in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His initial assignment was as Damage Control Assistant in the destroyer USS McFAUL (DDG 74). Subsequently he served as Tactical Signals Officer in the aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). While serving in DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, he was named Naval Air Forces, Atlantic Fleet, Shiphandler of the Year for 2000.
Following Department Head School, he served as First Lieutenant in the Dock Landing Ship USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD-52) and as Strike Group Operations Officer (N-3) for Amphibious Squadron SEVEN (CPR-7) and BONHOMME RICHARD Expeditionary Strike Group. He then served as Expeditionary Warfare and Maritime Security Operations Officer for Commander, Strike Force Training Pacific, followed by Current Operations Officer and Pacific Fleet Scheduler for Commander, Naval Surface Forces.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
