|CDR Janice A. Pollard
Originally from Houston, Texas, Commander Pollard graduated from San Diego State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and was commissioned through NROTC. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
At sea, CDR Pollard has served as Communications Officer in USS COMSTOCK (LSD 45), Assistant Operations Officer at MINE COUNTERMEASURES SQUADRON THREE, and Combat Systems Officer in both USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17) and Commander, Destroyer Squadron 26.
Additionally, she screened for Early Command and was selected to serve as Executive Officer of MCM Crew OLYMPIAN, a crew of 84 Individual Augmentee Sailors from more than 50 separate commands across the Fleet. Upon completion of this one year IA tour, she reported onboard USS ARDENT as Crew CONSTANT’s Executive Officer, and completed the transition to FDNF Bahrain Permanent Crew as Executive Officer onboard USS SENTRY. Her tour as XO culminated with unprecedented success during INSURV in FEB 2015.
As Commanding Officer, she led SENTRY through sustained operations in the FIFTH Fleet AOR, delivering Mine Countermeasure capability forward in an unprecedented 60-day surge deployment in support of OPERATION DECISIVE STORM. SENTRY completed over 300 nautical miles of route survey operations in international and Djiboutian territorial waters and 37 SeaFox mine-like contact identification flights throughout the Gulf of Aden.
Ashore, Commander Pollard served as Post-Department Head Detailer (PERS-411) and Commander Command Assignments, as well as a Seamanship and Navigation Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit and service awards.
