Air Department

Air Department's mission is to ensure the safe and professional launch, recovery, refueling, and defueling of military helicopters. Air Department is also tasked with the safe refueling of Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCACs) and small boats. 

Air Department is organized into three work centers:

  • VA-01 Aircraft Handlers (ABH): Responsible for launch, recovery, and maintenance of the flight deck, hangar, and portions of the catwalks.
  • IM-04 Support Equipment (AS): Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the flight deck ground support equipment and aviation weapon support equipment.
  • VF-01 Aviation Fuels (ABF): Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the JP-5 (F-44) and MOGAS fuel systems, including fueling and defueling all aircraft, boats, AAVs, LCUs, LCACs, and support equipment.
