Captain Thomas L. Dearborn, a native of Mount Vernon, Maine, received his commission in 1988 through the Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the University of Maine where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Production and Processing Technology.
Currently, Captain Dearborn is assigned as the Commanding Officer of PCU Somerset (LPD 25). As a career Surface Warfare Officer, Captain Dearborn’s sea assignments included USS Denver (LPD 9), USS Leahy (CG 16), USS Thorn (DD 988), USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) as the Executive Officer, and Commander, Carrier Strike Group Ten as the Flag Operations Officer. Captain Dearborn commanded two U.S. Naval ships, USS Tempest (PC 2) and USS Underwood (FFG 36).
Shore assignments included Fleet Combat Training Center, Atlantic as the Cruise Missile Officer; Commander, Naval Surface Forces, Atlantic as the Force Combat Systems Officer; and U.S. Northern Command as the NORAD/NORTHCOM Liaison Officer to U.S. Fleet Forces Command (JFMCC North). Captain Dearborn also attended the Naval War College earning his Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
Captain Dearborn’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (3), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3).
