ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A crowd of more than 4,000 people gathered May 4 at the Port of Anchorage to witness the commissioning of the U.S. Navy’s newest amphibious transport dock, USS Anchorage (LPD 23), during a ceremony held in the ship’s namesake city.
